Although a single charge may suffice to fragment a simple block, rocky massifs require more or less closely-packed multiple charges.<br>Two types of energy come into play when using explosives: <br>\u2013 the shock wave; <br>\u2013 gas pressure.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"209\" height=\"279\" src=\"https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/technique-de-minage.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4027\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"221\" height=\"189\" src=\"https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/minage-massif-rocheux.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4028\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Different types of explosives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two main types of explosives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>deflagrating explosives (black powder)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>detonating explosives (the most common kind)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three main groups of explosives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>dynamite: a nitroglycerine-based product, it is suitable for massive rocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ANFO (aluminum nitrate \u2013 fuel oil): larger quantities of this explosive are needed as it is less efficient. It should not be used when the rocks present cavities <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>emulsion: this explosive may be used in a number of ways and therefore has a relatively wide field of action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Explosives ill only work when associated with a detonating device and a priming device (pyrotechnic, micro-timed electric, electronic (sequential) or non-electric detonator).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explosives are classified according to various parameters :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> detonation speed: it is the speed at which the reaction process propagates in the mass of the explosive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>critical diameter: it is the diameter under which the explosive will not detonate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specific energy, which is the sum of the gas-generated energy and the shockwave-generated energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>density<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sensitivity to priming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>water resistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Firing plan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The firing plan is a document that must list certain elements of information elaborated by the engineer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>firing location<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>drilling characteristics (diametre, depth, inclination, number of drilled holes, CUI \u2013 single-detonation charge\u2026);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>characteristics of the device including type of explosive, priming, packing\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>priming sequence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drilling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Drilling operations matter because they will determine the quality of the firing plan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:20% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"65\" height=\"87\" src=\"https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/philippe-MTPS.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4029 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><mark style=\"color:#ffe800\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Philippe&#8217;s advice about Blasting : <\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Pre-zoning detonations make it possible to individualize the masses to be mined and hence limit the impact of Blasting on the non-excavated areas bordering the zone of activity.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Caution measures relative to Blasting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Blasting is often a quite impressive technique that may generate a number of risks and nuisances which can be perfectly controlled if the company undertaking the works is competent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provisions can be made for trial detonations in order to validate the CUI (single-detonation charge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vibration recordings may be carried out in order not to exceed the noise threshold criteria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protections against projections may be installed (geotextiles, wire netting\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"387\" height=\"254\" src=\"https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/minages-competences-securite.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/minages-competences-securite.jpg 387w, https:\/\/mtps.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/minages-competences-securite-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 387px) 100vw, 387px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Field of application Blasting techniques are essentially applied to rocky materials.
